The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caretaker committee backed by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dissolved the executives of 14 state chapters and announced plans to hold fresh congresses starting January 9, 2026.
In a communiqué issued after Thursday’s meeting in Abuja, the committee reaffirmed that the leadership of Mohammed Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as Acting National Secretary remains the only legitimate structure of the party. The statement was read by the Acting Publicity Secretary, Haruna Jungun.
The states affected by the decision include Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano, and Lagos.
The communiqué warned party members and the public against actions that could tarnish the party’s image. It also challenged the faction led by Tanimu Turaki (SAN), whose National Working Committee was elected at the Ibadan convention on November 16, to provide evidence that its executives were uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.
“The PDP remains strong and indivisible. There is only one genuine and legitimate PDP, headed by Honourable Abdulrahman Mohammed,” the communiqué stated.
During the meeting, the caretaker committee also ratified the dissolution of certain state working committees and confirmed caretaker committees in the affected states. It assigned key portfolios to members of the committee, including Professor Adenike Ogunse as Women Leader, Engineer Deji Dohati as Deputy National Secretary, Senator Olaka Ogunwu as Treasurer and Publicity, and Ambassador Dr. Ibrahim Bala-Aboki as Youth Leader.

Mohammed, in his address, asserted that his faction operates strictly in line with both the party’s constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “We have only one PDP under my leadership and my team as the caretaker committee of our great party,” he said.
The caretaker committee announced that all outstanding state congresses would be conducted during its 60-day tenure, after which a national convention will follow.
The development highlights the ongoing leadership tussle within the PDP, with both the Turaki-led faction and the Wike-backed caretaker committee conducting separate activities and engaging party leaders across the country.
