Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid has become the first African artist to surpass 11 billion total streams on Spotify across all credited appearances, further strengthening his position as one of Africa’s most commercially successful global music exports.
The milestone was announced on Tuesday by Charts Africa through its X account, where it highlighted Wizkid’s continued dominance in African streaming history on Spotify.
According to Charts Africa, Wizkid remains the first African artist to hit several major cumulative streaming milestones on the platform, including one billion, two billion, 10 billion and now 11 billion total streams.
The latest achievement comes shortly after the release of State of Mind, Wizkid’s collaboration with DJ Tunez, which debuted on May 15, 2026.
Reports indicate that the single generated more than 685,000 global Spotify streams within its first full day on the platform, adding fresh momentum to Wizkid’s already extensive streaming catalogue.
The achievement further highlights the growing international commercial strength of Afrobeats, a genre that has increasingly positioned Nigerian musicians among the leading figures in the global digital music industry.
Wizkid’s streaming success is also tied to several historic milestones for African music on Spotify. He featured on One Dance alongside Drake and Kyla, making it the first Spotify song involving an African artist to surpass one billion streams.
Other African artists have also broken major streaming records in recent years. Rema became the first African lead artist to achieve a one-billion-stream Spotify record with Calm Down, while Tems became the first African female artist associated with a song reaching one billion Spotify streams.

Similarly, Tyla became the first African solo artist to surpass one billion Spotify streams with Water.
The latest milestone also follows another major streaming feat involving Wizkid earlier in 2026. In January, Wizkid and Asake reportedly made African music history with their collaboration Jogodo, which became the fastest African song to reach 10 million Spotify streams after achieving the feat in less than one week.
Data tracked by Charts Africa at the time showed that the song recorded one of the fastest streaming growth rates ever achieved by an African release on the platform.
The continued rise in streaming figures reflects the expanding global influence of African music on digital platforms, where Nigerian artists continue to dominate Afrobeats consumption worldwide.
Spotify previously acknowledged the growing international appeal of Nigerian music and its popularity among younger listeners.
In 2022, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, identified Burna Boy, Asake, Davido, Drake and Wizkid as the five most-streamed artists among Nigeria’s Gen Z audience.
