Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as politically irrelevant in the state, describing the party as “dead on arrival” amid intensifying pre-election political realignments.
The governor’s remarks were made public on Sunday, April 5, through his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, following Yusuf’s return from Abuja, where he attended a series of political engagements.
Speaking to a large crowd of supporters in Kano, Yusuf cited the party’s internal crises and lack of cohesion as factors undermining its ability to compete effectively in the state’s political landscape.
“The ADC is dead on arrival in Kano. The party is already battling internal crises and lacks the grassroots support needed to survive in our political space,” the governor said.
He further noted that beyond its internal challenges, the party has failed to gain sufficient public trust or acceptance to mount a serious political contest.

Yusuf emphasised that Kano remains firmly under the control of the ruling political structure, backed by what he described as “overwhelming support” from the electorate.
He called on his supporters to remain focused and united to consolidate the gains of his administration.
“We will rally solid support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and I am very optimistic that the APC will, by the grace of God, win all elective positions in 2027,” Yusuf said, reaffirming his loyalty to the ruling party at both state and federal levels.
He also highlighted the positive outcomes of Kano State’s partnership with the Federal Government, particularly in infrastructure development and social intervention initiatives.
“Our partnership with the Federal Government is already yielding positive results through infrastructural development and social safety initiatives. We will deliver a landslide victory for the APC,” he added.
The governor’s comments come as political activity in Kano intensifies, with the ADC seeking to position itself as a growing opposition force, attracting notable defections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
