Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State have taken a decisive step ahead of the 2027 election by purchasing the expression of interest and nomination forms for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The development was made public on Friday, May 1, by a delegation headed by Awaji-Inombek Abiante, a member of the House of Representatives.
Abiante said the initiative was driven by party stakeholders across the state who believe the governor deserves another term.
He described the action as a common political practice meant to demonstrate collective support.
“This is not new. Even at the national level, stakeholders have, in the past, procured nomination forms for preferred candidates. It is a democratic tradition rooted in collective will,” a statement issued on Friday by the media office of Abiante said.
Abiante emphasised that the decision was not influenced by money or personal gain but by public sentiment in favour of continuity.
“It is not about how deep your pocket is. It is about what the people feel. And the people of Rivers State have made their position clear: they want continuity,” he noted.

The lawmaker cited infrastructure expansion and renewed access to remote communities as part of the governor’s record.
He pointed to projects in riverine areas, including Andoni, where improved connectivity has opened up economic opportunities.
“In places like Andoni, access was a long-standing challenge. Within months, that narrative changed. Communities once cut off are now connected and positioned to contribute meaningfully to the blue economy,” he said.
Abiante also referenced the rehabilitation of key public facilities, including the State Secretariat, and described Fubara as responsive to the needs of residents.
“This is a leader who understands the pains of his people and responds with action,” he said.
He clarified that the governor did not request or influence the purchase of the forms, adding that they would be formally presented to him.
The move comes amid ongoing political shifts in Rivers State following Fubara’s split with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, and his eventual defection to the APC, which significantly reshaped the state’s political alignment.
