Fubara Inspects Commissioners’ Housing Project, Targets November Completion

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced that the residential complex being developed for commissioners and special advisers will be completed by November 2026.

The governor made this known on Thursday during an on-site inspection of the project, according to a statement released in Port Harcourt by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi.

Fubara explained that the initiative to construct a centralised housing facility for top government officials was aimed at reducing the high cost of renting accommodation currently borne by the state.

He added that concentrating the residences in one location would also streamline security arrangements and cut related expenses.

The governor said, “It looks so embarrassing that the government will be spending a lot of money renting places for these senior officials.

“So, we decided to embark on this project, believing that when it is completed and accommodation is provided for our very productive officers, efficiency will be given top priority.

“When they are all living together, I think it makes it easy for us to have just one unit of security, and this multiple arrangement of carrying police here and there will also stop.”

The housing project, located within the Rainbow Housing Estate along the Trans-Amadi Industrial Layout in Port Harcourt, is being executed by Shaanxi Construction Engineering Nigeria Limited.

It comprises 25 units of six-bedroom apartments designed for senior government personnel.

Despite adverse weather conditions, including rain and muddy terrain, the governor proceeded with the inspection.

He was guided around the site by the Commissioner for Special Projects, Tonye Belgam, alongside representatives of the construction firm.

Fubara praised the contractors for their performance and expressed confidence in their ability to deliver the project within the stipulated November 2026 deadline.
