Bandits Abduct 30 Women, Girls in Sokoto, Hours Before Planned Wedding

At least 30 women and girls were kidnapped on Saturday night when armed bandits raided Chacho community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The attack, which left one resident injured, was revealed on Sunday in a post on X by security analyst Bakatsine.

According to him, the gunmen stormed the community under the cover of darkness and whisked away several women and girls, among them a bride and her bridesmaids who were preparing for a wedding scheduled for the following day.

“Yesterday night, bandits invaded Chacho community in Wurno LGA of Sokoto State. They injured one person and abducted at least 30 women and girls including a bride and her bridesmaids,” he wrote, lamenting that “a day meant for joy and celebration was shattered.”

He added that the incident once again raises concerns over the rising wave of insecurity and the suffering of ordinary families across the region.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the attack.
