Osun 2026: Accord Party Opens Door to Adeleke After PDP Exit

The Accord Party has said it is ready to receive Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, into its fold should he decide to contest for a second term on the party’s platform in the 2026 governorship election.

Adeleke recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing prolonged leadership conflicts within the party’s national structure and uncertainty over its readiness for the next election cycle.

Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday, December 3, the Lagos State Chairman of Accord, Dele Oladeji, said the party would welcome the governor with open arms.

“We are waiting for his declaration. That is what we can say for now. We are waiting for when he will declare for Accord,” Oladeji said.

“In Accord, we are ready for him. Whenever he decides to step in, we are set to receive him,” he added.

Oladeji described Accord as a conflict-free platform with no “godfather interference,” offering a dependable political base for serious contenders.

“Accord is a very stable and sanitised political platform. We have no factions and no godfathers,” he said. “Any candidate who joins us between now and 2027 is sure of a peaceful and dependable structure.”

He added that if Adeleke joined, party members would rally behind him. “If he decides to step in, we will be ready to work with him and ensure his success,” Oladeji said.

NAN reports that Adeleke, who is preparing to seek re-election in the 2026 off-cycle governorship poll, is considering more stable political alternatives.

His exit from the PDP came shortly after internal disagreements prevented the party from holding its scheduled primary, deepening factional disputes among its national officers.

First Daily recalls that in a recent interview, former Osun State Governor and founding Accord Party leader, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, described Accord as “a credible and inclusive political structure” for Adeleke, saying the party’s unity and grassroots reach made it a viable option for the governor’s second-term bid.

Adeleke’s next political move remains uncertain, but speculation continues to grow around his potential defection to the Accord Party.
