Rivers Lawmakers Reverse Course, Rejoin Fubara Impeachment Drive

Four Rivers State lawmakers who recently stepped back from impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara have done a complete U-turn, publicly declaring their support for the move.

The decision was made on Friday during a live broadcast, days after the legislators called for dialogue to resolve the political crisis in the state.

The impeachment, spearheaded by the House of Assembly under Speaker Martin Amaewhule, targets Governor Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, over alleged gross misconduct.

Among the charges are the demolition of the Assembly complex and spending public funds without legislative approval.

Earlier this week, the four lawmakers withdrew from the process, citing the need for reconciliation.

But on Friday, members of the Assembly reaffirmed that the impeachment would proceed, insisting it is a constitutional means to address the political deadlock.

The reversal comes after the Assembly failed to reconvene last Thursday, fueling speculation about internal divisions. With the four legislators back on board, momentum appears to have returned to the impeachment effort.

Further updates are expected as the situation unfolds.
