Tuggar Resigns As Foreign Affairs Minister, Eyes Bauchi Governorship

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has resigned his position effective Monday, March 30, 2026, as he moves to contest the 2027 governorship election in Bauchi State.

His exit comes just ahead of the March 31 deadline set by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, mandating all political appointees seeking elective office to step down.

Tuggar, a former senator for Bauchi North, is expected to formally declare his ambition in the coming weeks, joining early contenders in the state’s 2027 race.

The resignation marks a major cabinet exit and signals the start of high-level political realignments ahead of the next general elections.

During his tenure, Tuggar played a key role in advancing Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements and strengthening bilateral relations.

His departure is expected to prompt a cabinet reshuffle, with a successor to be named by the presidency.
