Abducted Lawyer, NYSC Member Eunice Ameh Regains Freedom

Abuja-based lawyer and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Eunice Ameh, has regained her freedom days after she was abducted in the Federal Capital Territory.

Her release was confirmed on Sunday, May 10, 2026, by human rights lawyer Festus Ogun, who said she was freed after a ransom was paid to her abductors.

Ogun, in a post on his X handle, wrote: “Eunice, the Abuja lawyer earlier abducted, has been freed, after payment of ransom.”

Ameh was kidnapped on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in the Maitama area of Abuja shortly after closing from work. She was last seen at about 5:40 p.m. that day while heading home to Life Camp, where she resides in a corps members’ lodge.

Her disappearance triggered concern within the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), which called for swift intervention by security agencies.

NBA President, Afam Osigwe, in a statement on Saturday, May 9, 2026, described the incident as deeply personal to members of the legal profession, stressing the need for urgent action and solidarity within the Bar.

Ameh had recently begun work as a Sales Manager with Blades and Butchers Ltd, located on Lake Chad Crescent in Maitama, Abuja, while also rounding off her NYSC service. She had only resumed the role a few weeks before her abduction.

The incident was reported to the Maitama Police Division, while NYSC officials were also alerted as search efforts commenced.

She was eventually found alive and released on Sunday, May 10, 2026, after days in captivity.
