Army Chief Vows Safe, Calm Christmas as Troops Tighten Festive Security

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Sokoto, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, has assured residents of a peaceful and secure atmosphere during the upcoming Christmas celebrations.

Ajose gave the assurance on Thursday night during the Division’s Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons held at the Giginya Cantonment, an event that attracted officers, soldiers, their families, security agencies and members of the host community.

The GOC, who also doubles as Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said the carol was not only a celebration of faith but also a reaffirmation of the Army’s commitment to safeguarding the region throughout the festive season.

“I want to extend my deepest appreciation to the gallant men and women of the 8 Division for your tireless efforts,” he said. “Your commitment—in collaboration with our sister agencies—is commendable. It is through this dedication that we can guarantee a peaceful and secure environment for all.”

He praised troops for their sacrifices in maintaining stability across the Division’s area of responsibility, extending warm Christmas greetings to all attendees.

The event featured musical performances by the Combined Choir of the Protestant and Roman Catholic chapels of the 8 Division, the Sokoto Deanery Choir and the Organisation of African Independent Churches, among others.

The carol also drew participation from senior officials of security and paramilitary agencies, underscoring the strengthened cooperation among security stakeholders in the North West.

With a blend of music, prayers and fellowship, the celebration highlighted unity within the cantonment and reinforced its bond with the host community, bolstering confidence in a safe and peaceful yuletide period across Sokoto and its environs.
