Benue Lawmaker Decries Unabated Killings by Bandits in Guma Constituency

A member of the Benue State House of Assembly, Mr. Peter Uche (APC, Guma I), has expressed deep concern over the persistent killings of residents in his constituency by suspected bandits.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Makurdi, Uche lamented that his people are being attacked and killed daily, with little to no deterrence from security forces.

“Just yesterday, being Monday, three people were killed, and six others were severely injured,” the lawmaker said. “In a situation where people are being killed, security agencies are hearing gunshots, yet they don’t want to approach the area. That is what I don’t understand.”

Uche described the trend as disturbing, noting that the assailants operate with impunity despite the presence of military and police personnel in the area. He revealed that constituents had begun protesting the continuous violence and perceived inaction by security agencies.

He urged security operatives to intensify efforts in protecting lives and property, calling on the military to improve their response time to prevent further casualties and ensure arrests.

The lawmaker also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to authorities.
