Coalition Will Collapse Completely by September — ADC Rep Abejide Blows Hot

The lawmaker representing Yagba East/Yagba West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency of Kogi State, Leke Abejide, has said the opposition coalition will collapse by September.

Abejide, who described himself as the “landlord” of the African Democratic Congress, made the claim while speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Friday, August 22.

“You can see that the coalition collapsed last Saturday; all over the country, they could not even win one seat. That was the beginning of the end.

“By early next month, the coalition will collapse completely, because you cannot come to somebody’s house, hijack his house, and you think that the person, no matter how stupid he is, will be looking at you,” he said.

The lawmaker stressed that he had kept the ADC alive and relevant. “I will let them know that I am the landlord. I didn’t establish the party, but I am the one who made the party remain where it is today.

“I have never decamped to a big party; I have used it [the ADC] to contest all my elections and brought people, apart from myself, to the National Assembly and the state assembly,” he added.

He further argued that none of the coalition leaders had roots in the ADC.

According to him, a former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, and a former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, were not card-carrying members of the party.

Abejide added that while a former Senate President, David Mark, and a former Osun governor, Rauf Aregbesola, had joined the ADC, they held no leadership positions before the coalition adopted the party.

In July 2025, the coalition had named the ADC as its political platform for the 2027 general elections. Mark and Aregbesola were appointed interim chairman and national secretary respectively.

Other members of the coalition include a former Kaduna governor, Nasir El-Rufai, a former Rivers governor, Rotimi Amaechi, Senator Dino Melaye, a former Sports Minister, Solomon Dalong, former Benue governor, Gabriel Suswam, and publisher Dele Momodu.

Also in the coalition are Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Labour Party, a former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, and a former Chief of Air Staff, Sadique Abubakar (retd.).

The ruling All Progressives Congress, however, has insisted that any coalition formed against President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition will not succeed.
