El‑Rufai’s Mother Dies In Egypt, Family Requests Prayers

The family of Mallam Nasir Ahmad El‑Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, has confirmed the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El‑Rufai.

She died on Friday, March 27, 2026, while receiving medical treatment in Egypt.

Hajiya Umma had been facing age-related health challenges, although the exact cause of her passing has not been disclosed.

Her grandson, Bello El‑Rufai, announced the loss on social media, invoking the Islamic phrase “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un” meaning “From Allah we came and to Him we shall return.”

He described her as a devoted and loving mother and requested prayers for her soul.

El‑Rufai, who led Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023, has not issued a personal statement regarding his mother’s death.

The family is overseeing funeral arrangements, which will adhere to Islamic customs, including burial rites to be conducted in accordance with tradition.
