FG Approves N6bn For Three Mega Schools In Gombe

The federal government has approved N6 billion for the construction of three mega schools in Gombe State, a move aimed at expanding access to quality education and strengthening learning infrastructure in the North-East.

The approval was announced on Monday, February 9, 2026, by the Minister of Regional Development, Uba Ahmadu, during the inauguration of a student hostel in Kumo, Akko Local Government Area.

The schools, to be built by the North East Development Commission (NEDC), will be located in Dadin Kowa, Dukku, and Kaltungo.

The project is designed to provide modern, well-equipped facilities including classrooms, laboratories, and student hostels to enhance learning outcomes and create safe, motivating environments for students.

The initiative is part of the federal government’s broader strategy to address educational gaps in the North-East, particularly in communities affected by instability.

It complements previous NEDC interventions, including the construction of similar mega schools, deployment of mobile science laboratories, and programmes to boost science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education.

Officials emphasized that collaboration between the federal government and the Gombe State Government is central to the project’s success.

While exact timelines for completion and staffing are yet to be disclosed, the mega schools are expected to significantly improve access to quality education and provide modern learning spaces for thousands of students across the state.
