Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in the early hours of Tuesday following a fire outbreak at a one-storey commercial building on Somoye Osundairo Street in the Computer Village area of Ikeja, Lagos State.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the fire broke out at about 1:55 a.m., prompting the immediate activation of the state’s emergency response plan from its Command and Control Centre in Alausa.
According to LASEMA, its response team arrived at the scene to find a raging fire in a commercial structure housing dealers in computers and accessories. Thick smoke and active flames were observed, pointing to intense combustion within the building.
“Responders observed active flames and dense smoke, indicating intense combustion within the structure. The high volume of combustible materials contributed to the rapid spread of the fire,” the agency said.
Although no fatalities were recorded, LASEMA disclosed that some firefighters sustained minor injuries while battling the blaze. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and investigations have commenced.
The agency noted that the entire upper floor of the building was completely razed, with all goods and properties stored there destroyed by the inferno.
To prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures, LASEMA said it conducted a risk assessment, cordoned off the affected area, and coordinated a multi-agency response involving the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, and the Nigeria Police Force.

“All goods and properties worth millions of naira stored therein were totally destroyed by the conflagration,” the statement added.
Firefighting operations were eventually successful, with responders containing the blaze within the affected building and preventing further damage to adjoining properties.
The incident has once again raised concerns among traders in Computer Village, a major hub for electronics and accessories in Lagos, many of whom have suffered repeated losses to fire outbreaks over the years.
