National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu has dismissed online claims that his mother died on Monday, January 19, 2026, calling the reports false and misleading.
Ribadu clarified the situation on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, after receiving a flood of calls and messages from friends, colleagues, and well-wishers.
“The publication is false and misleading. My mother of blessed memory passed away 28 years ago and therefore could not have died on Monday,” he said.
He added that the person who passed away was Hajja Mamma Sulaiman Ribadu, the wife of his late uncle, and offered prayers for her soul.

The false report had briefly trended on social media, prompting condolences before Ribadu’s statement set the record straight.
Ribadu, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police and former pioneer Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is a prominent figure in Nigeria’s security and anti-corruption efforts.
His swift response highlights the dangers of misinformation and the importance of verifying reports, particularly when they involve public figures.
