Publisher of First Daily, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, has felicitated with elder statesman and nationalist, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, as he marks his 100th birthday, describing him as one of Nigeria’s finest political icons whose legacy will echo through generations.
Iworiso-Markson, who is in Kano to join members of the Yakasai family, friends, and well-wishers in celebrating the remarkable milestone, said it is a privilege to honour “a man who has spent a full century embodying courage, patriotism, and unshakeable commitment to Nigeria.”
The First Daily publisher announced that the media organisation has produced a special documentary to commemorate Yakasai’s centenary. He urged Nigerians to look out for its broadcast on Arise TV, other major national television networks, the First Daily YouTube channel, and all affiliated social media platforms.
“Alhaji Tanko Yakasai is not just a statesman; he is a national treasure,” Iworiso-Markson said. “His contributions to Nigeria’s independence struggle, democracy, and political development are indelible. His life is a living textbook of service, sacrifice, and vision.”
He praised the centenarian’s exemplary approach to politics, describing it as “politics without rancour” and a model for national unity.
“Baba Yakasai’s brand of politics stands out because it is never adversarial. He disagreed without bitterness. He opposed without hostility. His respect for opponents and his commitment to dialogue and understanding remain unmatched in our political history. That is the kind of politics Nigeria needs today,” the publisher added.
Iworiso-Markson also saluted Yakasai’s long-standing devotion to justice and national cohesion, noting that his activism—from his early days in the Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU) alongside Mallam Aminu Kano, to his statesmanship after independence—continues to inspire younger generations.

“As we celebrate a century of his life, we celebrate a century of courage, conviction and unwavering belief in Nigeria,” he said.
The First Daily documentary will showcase never-before-seen footage, interviews, and reflections on the life of the man widely described as “the last man standing” among Nigeria’s early freedom fighters.
Iworiso-Markson concluded by extending warm wishes on behalf of First Daily Media Group, saying: “We are honoured to be part of this historic celebration. May Baba Yakasai’s legacy continue to light the path for Nigeria’s future.”
