Kwankwaso Submits NDC Candidates For 19 Northern States, FCT

Former Kano State Governor and National Democratic Congress (NDC) chieftain, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced the formal submission of the party’s candidates across the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso disclosed this in a statement posted on his verified X account on Thursday, August 20, 2026, saying the exercise was completed in collaboration with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and candidates at various levels.

He said he led the coordination and formal submission of the candidates’ names to the NDC National Leader, former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson.

“In a spirit of complete collaboration, support and solidarity, I led the coordination and formal submission of National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates across the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory,” Kwankwaso said.

According to him, the submission process involved close coordination with the NWC and candidates contesting various elective positions across the affected states.

He said the exercise was successfully concluded on Thursday with the formal presentation of the names of all candidates to Dickson.

Kwankwaso expressed appreciation to the party’s National Leader, the NWC and the candidates for their cooperation and commitment throughout the process.

“I express our profound gratitude to the National Leader, the National Working Committee, and all the candidates for their cooperation and unwavering commitment,” he said.

The former governor described the development as more than the completion of an administrative exercise, saying it represented another step towards strengthening the NDC ahead of the 2027 elections.

“This is more than the completion of a submission process, it is another decisive step towards building a formidable NDC team capable of competing strongly at every level,” he said.

Kwankwaso added that the party was prepared for the political tasks ahead, expressing optimism about its prospects in the 2027 elections.

“The task ahead is promising, and we are ready to go,” he stated.

The development comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition parties intensifying efforts to strengthen their structures and field candidates across the country.

The submission of candidates across the northern states and the FCT is expected to further position the NDC for participation in the forthcoming electoral contests at federal and state levels.

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and former presidential candidate, remains an influential political figure in northern Nigeria, where his political structure has continued to attract attention ahead of the 2027 elections.

The latest development signals the NDC’s intention to consolidate its presence across the northern region and prepare its candidates for the electoral contest.

As political activities gather momentum, parties and candidates are expected to intensify mobilisation, consultations and grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 polls.
