Lagos Police Probe Simi’s Old Tweets Amid Child Abuse Allegations

The Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Binta Adamu Bello, has ordered a full-scale investigation into allegations of child molestation and abuse at a daycare facility in Lagos.

The directive followed resurfaced social media posts allegedly linked to Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi.

In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, NAPTIP confirmed that operatives had been instructed to commence an immediate inquiry after “suggestive online posts” pointed to potential abuse within the daycare.

The agency assured the public that all its communication platforms are available to receive complaints from anyone who may have experienced abuse at the facility.

NAPTIP has launched a full investigation into allegations of child abuse at a Lagos daycare facility.

Anyone with useful information is urged to come forward and report through our official channels. Child protection remains our priority,” the statement said.

The agency’s probe comes after the Lagos State Government also initiated preliminary investigations.

The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, confirmed on Thursday that the matter had been referred to the Commissioner of Police, noting that the agency could not ignore the allegations.

The controversy was sparked by recirculated screenshots of tweets from 2012 and 2013, purportedly authored by Simi.

The posts emerged after the singer commented publicly on the widespread sexual assault of women, prompting critics to interpret the decade-old tweets as suggestive of inappropriate conduct in a daycare environment.

Simi has since clarified that the old tweets were misinterpreted and unrelated to any improper conduct, emphasizing that her comments were intended to advocate for the protection of sexual assault survivors.
