Lagos Seals Ebute Metta Toilet Over Illegal Sewage Discharge

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed a public toilet facility situated on Savage Street in Ebute Metta for allegedly channeling untreated sewage into a public drainage system.

Confirming the development on Thursday, the 19th of February, 2026, via a statement posted on X, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed that the enforcement operation was carried out on Wednesday, the 18th of February.

Wahab explained that the decision was taken after officials discovered what he described as “the deliberate pumping of raw sewage into the public drain, resulting in offensive odour and the uncontrolled flow of sewage within the community.”

He noted that such actions represent environmental contamination and amount to a public nuisance capable of endangering the health and safety of residents in the affected neighbourhood.
