The Lagos State Government has set up a Central Planning Committee to manage and harmonise arrangements for the final burial rites of the late Akran of Badagry, Oba Babatunde Akran, Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I.
The committee was constituted on Sunday, the 8th of February, 2026, to ensure proper coordination of activities leading to the monarch’s burial.
Oba Akran, who was also the Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, passed away on the 12th of January after a brief illness. He was 89 years old.
While announcing the formation of the committee, the state government emphasised that the burial planning must be guided by unity, openness, integrity, and strict observance of traditional customs.

The Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Mrs Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, was named chairman of the committee. Nunayon Ahisu will serve as co-chairman, while Dr Olajide Messewaku has been appointed as the committee’s secretary.
According to the government, the committee has been tasked with delivering a dignified, seamless, and culturally appropriate burial ceremony that reflects the stature, service, and enduring legacy of the late traditional ruler.
