Makinde Most Suitable Opposition Candidate For 2027 – APM

The Lagos State chapter of the Allied People’s Movement has declared Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde the most suitable candidate to lead the opposition coalition into the 2027 presidential election.

The party made the declaration in a statement issued on Monday by its state publicity secretary, Ayodele Kazeem, who said Makinde possesses the leadership qualities, competence and national appeal needed to unite opposition forces and offer Nigerians a credible alternative.

According to Kazeem, the party’s position was based on Makinde’s record in office rather than political sentiment.

“APM Lagos firmly believes that if the opposition is truly committed to presenting the Nigerian people with a credible alternative in 2027, then Governor Seyi Makinde stands out as the most qualified, competent and unifying candidate to fly the banner of the coalition,” he said.

He added that Makinde’s administration had recorded notable achievements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture and security while maintaining prudent fiscal management.

Kazeem argued that Nigeria needed a leader with practical experience in governance and described Makinde as someone who had demonstrated that government resources could be managed effectively.

“He has consistently shown that public resources can be managed responsibly without unnecessary extravagance. He has proven that development can be driven by planning rather than propaganda,” he said.

The party spokesperson also highlighted Makinde’s ability to build political alliances across regional and party lines, describing him as a bridge-builder capable of attracting nationwide support.

According to him, the governor’s leadership style, calm disposition and willingness to listen to differing opinions make him an ideal candidate for a country facing political and economic challenges.

Kazeem further stressed that electability should remain a major consideration for opposition parties ahead of the 2027 polls.

“The coalition cannot afford to present a candidate who merely excites a section of the country but cannot build a national winning alliance. Makinde offers that balance,” he said.

The party also pledged to mobilise support for the opposition coalition across Lagos State, revealing plans to strengthen grassroots structures, expand volunteer networks and encourage voter registration.

Kazeem disclosed that APM governorship candidate, Prince Laja Adeoye, had already begun coordinating efforts aimed at delivering millions of votes for the coalition during the presidential election.

He maintained that the movement was focused on promoting issue-based politics and restoring public confidence in governance.
