Makinde: PDP Will Produce Nigeria’s Next President In 2027

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will secure victory in Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, producing the country’s next leader.

Makinde made the assertion on Monday while speaking at the 103rd National Executive Committee meeting of a PDP faction aligned with him, held in Abuja, where he addressed party members and key stakeholders.

He underscored the party’s preparedness and political strength, insisting it was positioned to take back control at the national level.

“We should write it down. This gathering will produce House of Assembly members, will produce House of Representatives, will produce Senators, will produce Governors and will produce the next President,” he said.

During the meeting, the faction also approved the formation of a 13-member Caretaker Committee, which will be led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Tanimu Turaki, as chairman.

The resolution was reached after a motion was presented by the Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, and seconded by Clement Fagboyede, an ex-officio member of the party.

Other members appointed into the committee include Taofeek Arapaja, who will serve as National Secretary, alongside Daniel Ambrose, Hamza Abuya, Ihediwa, Isah Abubakar, Theophilus Dakashan, Ini Ememobong, Aribisala Adewale Idowu, Baru Shaffi, and Okechukwu Obiechina.

It was also disclosed that the Makinde-led group plans to officially present Turaki as head of the caretaker committee.

The development comes in the wake of a Supreme Court judgment that nullified the PDP national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025, further intensifying the party’s internal leadership dispute ahead of the 2027 elections.
