La Liga: Real Madrid’s Mendy Hit With Fresh Injury Setback

Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy has been ruled out for an extended period after suffering a thigh injury, with Spanish media reporting that the setback will keep him sidelined for several months.

The left-back was forced off early in Sunday’s 2–0 victory over Espanyol, leaving the pitch after just 14 minutes in a match that prevented Barcelona from clinching the La Liga title.

Mendy is now set to undergo surgery in the coming hours following what has been described as his 16th injury since joining the Spanish giants from Lyon in 2019.

“Following tests carried out today on our player Ferland Mendy… he has been diagnosed with a rectus femoris tendon injury in his right leg,” Madrid said in a statement.

The French international last featured for his national team in June 2024 and is not expected to be in contention for Didier Deschamps’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.
