Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, met with leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja, describing the engagement as a solidarity visit prompted by recent political developments, including protests and ongoing legal disputes.
The meeting brought together a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Taminu Turaki and a group within the ADC aligned with former Senate President David Mark.
It was held at Mark’s residence in Apo and continued late into the night.
The engagement followed a protest earlier the same day, Wednesday, April 8, 2026 by ADC supporters at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, reflecting heightened political activity within opposition circles.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Makinde said the visit was intended to demonstrate support and reinforce democratic principles amid evolving political tensions.
According to him, recent events across the political space necessitated closer engagement among stakeholders committed to credible democratic processes.
Those present at the meeting included former Attorney General Abubakar Malami and former governors Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Aminu Tambuwal, Peter Obi and Babangida Aliyu.
Also in attendance were former Information Minister Jerry Gana and PDP National Secretary Taofeek Arapaja.
The meeting, coming within hours of the ADC demonstration at INEC, underscores growing interaction among opposition figures as political alignments continue to evolve.
