The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected a mix of dust haze and cloudy conditions nationwide from Monday the 23rd of February through Wednesday, the 25th of February, 2026.
In its weather outlook issued on Sunday, the 22nd of February, in Abuja, the agency indicated that northern states will witness slight dust haze on Monday, a situation expected to persist during the forecast window. However, areas including Borno and Yobe are likely to record moderate dust haze, with horizontal visibility estimated between 2km and 5km.
Across the southern belt, NiMet forecast cloudy skies interspersed with sunshine, alongside minimal chances of early morning thunderstorms in parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom. As the day advances, thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall are expected in sections of Ondo, Ogun, Lagos, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom.
By Tuesday, 24th of February, the agency anticipates moderate dust haze in the northern region, again with visibility ranging from 2km to 5km throughout the period. The North Central zone is expected to experience slight dust haze during the same timeframe.
For southern states, cloudy conditions with sunny intervals are projected, while morning thunderstorms may occur in parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River. Later hours could bring light rains and thunderstorms over Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom.
On Wednesday, the 25th of February, NiMet predicted a thick dust haze across both the northern and North Central regions for the duration of the forecast period.

In the South, cloudy skies mixed with sunshine are anticipated, with possible early thunderstorms in parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom. As the day progresses, thunderstorms with light rainfall are expected over Bayelsa, Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Edo, Cross River, Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom.
The agency advised residents to take necessary precautions, noting that dust particles remain suspended over the northern and North Central regions, as well as inland areas of the South.
Individuals with asthma and other respiratory conditions were urged to be particularly careful.
NiMet also recommended that airline operators obtain airport-specific weather reports, including flight documentation, from the agency to ensure effective operational planning.
