The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kano State chapter, has commended Governor Abba Yusuf for the renovation of over 200 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) and the upgrading of some PHCs and cottage hospitals to general hospitals across the state.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Kano to mark the 2025 Physicians Week, the NMA Chairman, Dr. AbdulRahman Ali, described the initiative as a major step toward strengthening the state’s healthcare system and improving the welfare of health workers.
Ali said the development would not only enhance service delivery but also motivate medical personnel to redouble their commitment to patient care.
He appealed to the state government to ensure that healthcare workers are adequately motivated and well-compensated, while also prioritising continuous training and retraining to improve professional competence.

This year’s Physicians Week, themed “Healthcare as a Value Chain: Building Efficiency from Policy to Patient,” features lectures, hospital visits, and free medical outreaches across the state.
