Osun 2026: APC’s Oyebamiji Welcomes SDP, PDP Defectors Ahead Of Polls

Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the August 8, 2026, Osun State election, on Wednesday met new members who recently defected from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

The meeting, facilitated by the Ajisope Development Initiative, a group within Osun APC, was held in Osogbo. Oyebamiji urged the defectors to return to their wards and work for the party’s victory in the upcoming election.

The former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu authorised defections to the Accord Party, urging supporters of other political parties to join the APC for a collective win.

“There is no way for those who are still in the Accord Party. Tell them to come and join us. The president did not tell anybody to go to the Accord Party, as they are saying around,” Oyebamiji said.

He also refuted circulating claims that he planned to reduce salaries of Osun State workers if elected, describing them as false and insisting that no amount of misinformation would stop APC’s victory. Oyebamiji urged members to work at the grassroots level to ensure strong party penetration across the state.

Abdulkabir Adeoye, founder of the Ajisope Development Initiative, said the meeting aimed to foster unity among APC members and strengthen their approach to the governorship election. He assured new members that all supporters would have equal opportunities under Oyebamiji’s administration if elected.

Raji Kareem, a PDP defector and coordinator of the initiative, added that the group had mobilised more people, including artisans and members of professional bodies, to join the APC.

The Osun electorate will go to the polls on August 8, 2026, to elect a new governor. Oyebamiji is seeking to unseat incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is contesting for re-election on the Accord Party platform.
