Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, has won the Peoples Democratic Party’s fresh governorship primary in Gombe State, securing the party’s ticket for the 2027 election.
Pantami won Tuesday’s rerun, conducted across the state’s 11 local government areas. He polled 2,054 votes to defeat Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki, who scored 389, and Usman Aliyu Garry, who received 112 votes.
The result was announced by the Chairman of the PDP Governorship Primary Rerun Committee, Johnbull Shekarau.
The rerun followed a September 24 judgment by Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Gombe, which nullified the May 26 primary that initially produced Pantami as the party’s candidate.

The court directed the PDP to conduct a fresh primary within 30 days, in line with its constitution, electoral guidelines and applicable laws.
Pantami had emerged from the May exercise through voice affirmation after joining the PDP following his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress governorship contest.
His earlier nomination was challenged by fellow PDP aspirants, prompting the court action that led to the fresh primary.
With Tuesday’s victory, Pantami has secured the PDP ticket for a second time and is set to represent the party in the 2027 Gombe governorship election, subject to any further legal challenge.
