The Rivers State Government has called off the Independence Day parade earlier slated for the 1st of October, at Sharks Stadium, Port Harcourt, where activities were to be held to celebrate Nigeria’s 65th anniversary.
A statement issued on Tuesday, the 30th of September, by the Special Services Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, and signed by Dede Sampson Friday, explained that the move followed “a pronouncement by the Federal Government.”
According to the release, the state government also expressed regrets to residents for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation.

This comes after the Federal Government had “announced the cancellation of the Independence Day parade in Abuja” without giving any explanation for the decision.
