Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has announced October 20, 2025, as the official date for the planned #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest march to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Sowore made the announcement in a post shared via his official X handle on Thursday, revealing that the demonstration will commence at 7 a.m.
The protest, which is expected to draw supporters and rights advocates from across the country, is aimed at demanding the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Sowore, a vocal critic of the government and an advocate for civil rights, has consistently called for Kanu’s release, arguing that his continued detention violates constitutional provisions and court orders.

The activist’s latest announcement comes amid renewed discussions over Kanu’s trial, as the Federal Government continues to press terrorism-related charges against him before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
While Sowore did not disclose further details about the protest logistics or route, the announcement has already generated reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing support or caution over the planned march.
Security agencies are yet to issue a statement regarding the proposed protest.
