Troops Kill Bandit, Recover Weapons in Fresh Plateau, Kogi Raids

Troops of the 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace have killed a bandit during an ambush in Odare Forest, Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, the military confirmed on Wednesday.

Spokesman for the task force, Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, said in a statement that the intelligence-led operation took place on September 16, when troops intercepted bandits on motorcycles heading into the forest. One bandit was neutralised, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

Recovered items included a motorcycle, two mobile phones, a machete, and charms abandoned by the fleeing criminals.

In another operation on September 15, troops stormed bandit crossing points around Garga, Showaka, Yuli, and Kukawa villages in Wase and Kanam LGAs, overpowering the gangs with superior firepower. A G3 rifle, a magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were seized.

“The recent onslaughts are part of efforts to deny bandits freedom of action and bring perpetrators of crimes to justice,” Zhakom said, stressing that troops would maintain relentless pressure until criminal elements are neutralised.

The development comes just days after troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Operation Accord III, killed notorious bandit commander Babangida Kachala, the second-in-command to Kachala Shuaibu, during operations in Kogi State. Similarly, another notorious leader, Kachalla Balla, and five of his men were eliminated in separate encounters.

The army reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations to restore peace and security in troubled regions.
