Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 25 kidnapped victims during separate operations in Katsina and Zamfara States, dealing another major blow to terrorist activities across the North-West.
The operations, conducted on Thursday, September 3, 2026, saw troops disrupt terrorist movements, pursue fleeing attackers and free civilians who had been held captive for weeks.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday night by the Media Information Officer, Lt. Aliyu Danja.
In Katsina State, troops of Sector 1 were conducting a night patrol along Kwanar Kura in Sabuwa Local Government Area when they encountered terrorists.
The troops engaged the terrorists with overwhelming firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee into the surrounding bushes.
Troops also recovered two motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists.
In a separate operation in Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 rescued 23 abducted civilians during a fighting patrol on the outskirts of Wuya Town in Anka Local Government Area.
The rescued group comprised three males and 20 females, with preliminary debriefing indicating that they had been abducted from Gummi Local Government Area and held in terrorist captivity for approximately three weeks.

The victims were subsequently evacuated for medical attention and further debriefing.
The operations represent another significant success for Operation Fansan Yamma in its ongoing offensive against terrorists and criminal elements operating across the North-West.
The latest successes also come amid sustained military operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement, disrupting their networks and preventing them from using rural communities and major road corridors as kidnapping grounds.
Operation Fansan Yamma said its troops remain committed to sustaining offensive operations across the Joint Operations Area and protecting civilians from terrorist attacks and abductions.
The military also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces to enhance ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and rescue citizens held in captivity.
