On Monday, December 29, 2025, Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike rejected allegations by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde that he promised President Bola Tinubu he would “hold the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)” for the president ahead of the 2027 general election.
Wike described the claim as a blatant lie, insisting he never made such a promise and questioning whether the meeting Makinde referenced ever took place.
He called the allegation “very unfair” and suggested it stemmed from frustration rather than fact.
Makinde had made the claim on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, saying he was surprised when Wike allegedly offered to support Tinubu during a post-election meeting.
The Oyo governor rejected the idea, emphasizing that strong opposition is essential for the health of Nigeria’s democracy.
