Alex Otti has approved 100 hectares of land within the Abia Airport Project site for the Nigerian Air Force to establish a training base in the state.
The approval responds to the Air Force’s earlier request to expand the 50 hectares previously allocated for the project.
Governor Otti granted the approval on Tuesday, the 10th of March, 2026, while receiving a delegation from the Nigerian Air Force Ground Training Command. He expressed gratitude to the Air Force for choosing Abia State for the new base.
Otti assured the delegation, led by Adebayo Kehinde, that the Abia Airport runway, a joint project of the Federal and State governments, would soon be completed. “You can take it for granted that you have at least 100 hectares of land in that place,” he said.

He added that his administration would press the contractor handling the renovation of the Air Force office in Abia State to complete the project before the end of April, allowing the Chief of Air Staff to formally take delivery.
The governor urged the Commander to continue supporting the state in combating criminality and assured that the Certificate of Occupancy for the land would be ready within thirty days.
Earlier, the Air Officer Commanding, Ground Training Command, Adebayo Kehinde, praised the state’s security, noting that Eastern Security sanity was impressive and that Abia State was ahead of other Southeast states in maintaining safety.
