The Delta Democrats Forum (DDF), backed by the Good Governance Group (GGG), has issued a strongly worded open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, rejecting the nomination of Mr. Reno Omokri as Ambassador-designate representing Delta State.
In the letter signed by its Convener, Comrade Ufuoma Steven Atare, the DDF described Omokri as “unfit for diplomatic duty,” citing what it called his controversial public conduct, volatile rhetoric, and inconsistent political posture.
According to the group, an ambassador must embody calmness, maturity, and national coherence—qualities it says Omokri has not demonstrated. Instead, the organisation accused him of fuelling public tension through divisive commentary and frequent altercations on social media.
“Delta State cannot be represented abroad by an individual whose conduct routinely inflames tensions and disrespects opposing views,” the letter read.
The DDF further argued that Omokri’s alleged inconsistency in political loyalty raises questions about his reliability in a sensitive diplomatic role. It said Delta is known for producing leaders of humility, discipline, and quiet excellence—traits it insists are not reflected in Omokri’s public persona.
The group went on to say that Omokri “would struggle to meet the standards required even for local leadership,” arguing that this makes his suitability for international representation even more concerning.

Emphasising that Delta State has a wealth of respected technocrats, diplomats, and statesmen with impeccable character, the forum maintained that choosing Omokri “disregards more credible and unifying candidates.”
The DDF therefore urged President Tinubu to immediately withdraw the nomination and replace Omokri with someone who represents “unity rather than division” and who upholds Nigeria’s diplomatic reputation.
The letter concludes that the rejection reflects the views of many Deltans across political lines who fear that Omokri’s appointment would undermine the state’s honour and the country’s international image.
