Gombe Army Recruit Dies During Training

A newly recruited Nigerian Army trainee from Gombe State, Ibrahim Nazifi, has died while undergoing military training at the Nigerian Army Depot in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Nazifi, who hailed from Buba Bani Village in Kashere Ward, Akko Local Government Area, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026, during the course of the ongoing training exercise at the depot.

He was enlisted under the Nigerian Army Regular Recruit Intake and had recently commenced the rigorous military training programme before his death.

The Gombe State Government confirmed the development, stating that the recruit died after a brief illness while in training.

Describing the late trainee as a patriotic young Nigerian, the state government said his death was a painful loss to his immediate family, the people of Akko Local Government Area, and Gombe State as a whole.

The government extended condolences to the bereaved family, relatives, and colleagues of the deceased, while offering prayers for the repose of his soul.

No further details were disclosed regarding the circumstances surrounding his death.
