Political commentator Reno Omokri has intensified criticism of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing him of inconsistency and controversial political associations in a statement posted on his X account on Wednesday.
In the strongly worded remarks, Omokri questioned Obi’s credibility, alleging that the former Anambra State governor’s current political relationships contradict his past stance against what he once described as “structures of criminality.”
Central to his criticism was former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, whose name Omokri invoked while raising allegations of corruption and asset acquisition, claims that have remained part of public and legal discourse in recent years.
Omokri also revisited Obi’s campaign-era rhetoric, particularly his calls for civic awakening among religious communities, suggesting that such messages now appear at odds with his perceived political alignments.
In a controversial comparison that has drawn widespread attention, Omokri referenced Lawrence Anini, implying that Obi’s associations could extend to figures of questionable reputation. The remark has sparked mixed reactions, with critics describing it as excessive, while supporters argue it reflects growing political tensions.

The statement further referenced Nigeria’s military era under Sani Abacha, using it as a backdrop to question Obi’s political history and affiliations.
Omokri’s comments have added to the increasingly heated political discourse ahead of the 2027 general elections, where narratives around integrity, alliances, and leadership continue to shape public debate.
Analysts note that such sharp exchanges highlight the deepening divisions within Nigeria’s political landscape, underscoring the need for more issue-driven conversations focused on governance, policy, and national development.
