Authorities in Mexico are investigating the death of 14-year-old Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo, who died on September 20, 2025, after complications from a breast enlargement surgery allegedly arranged without her father’s consent.
Paloma reportedly suffered cerebral edema (brain swelling) and cardiorespiratory arrest following the procedure, which was said to have been organised by her mother’s boyfriend.
Her father, Carlos Arellano, has disputed the official cause of death, claiming the death certificate falsely stated “illness” to conceal the nature of the surgery.
“Her death certificate falsely stated ‘illness’ as the cause of death in an attempt to cover up the truth. At the funeral, some relatives told me her breasts were larger than before. We have photographs of the implants and the scars. We immediately requested an autopsy,” he said.
Local reports indicate that the breast enlargement may have been accompanied by other cosmetic procedures, including liposuction and a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL).
State Attorney General Yadira de la Garza Fragoso confirmed that an investigation is underway.
“We are investigating a probable lack of care on the part of the mother for placing a minor who was under her care and custody in risky situations,” she said.

The surgeon identified in the case, Víctor “N.”, has been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
Officials added that a full forensic autopsy is in progress, with the final pathological report expected in the coming weeks.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage across Mexico and intensified debate over the regulation of cosmetic surgery for minors.
President Claudia Sheinbaum has pledged federal oversight in the case, stressing the need for stricter enforcement to prevent similar tragedies.
