Plateau Attacks: IGP Disu To Visit State Wednesday

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, is scheduled to visit Plateau State on Wednesday amid heightened security concerns following a series of deadly attacks across parts of the state.

At least 20 people have reportedly been killed in separate attacks by gunmen in several Plateau communities over the past week.

The Plateau State Police Command disclosed the planned visit in a media invitation issued on Tuesday and signed by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo.

The Command said the visit is “aimed at strengthening security collaboration, assessing police formations, and engaging key stakeholders in the state.”

“The Plateau State Police Command cordially invites members of the media on the Plateau to cover the official visit of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc+, NPM, to Plateau State,” the statement partly read.

Alabo said Disu is expected to land at the Jos Airport at 9:30 am on Wednesday, with a courtesy visit to the state governor scheduled for 10:30 am.

The IGP is also expected to hold an engagement at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS, at noon before inspecting the Police Staff College, Jos, at 3:00 pm.

His programme will continue on Thursday, September 17, 2026, with an “Inspection Visit to Plateau State Police Headquarters, Jos” scheduled for 10:00 am. He is expected to leave for Jos Airport at 2:00 pm.

The visit follows recent incidents in the state, including attacks reported in parts of Mangu Local Government Area on September 12 and the incident at Dungus Junction, Kuru, in Jos South Local Government Area, on September 13, which left people dead and others injured.

The Command said the IGP’s visit would provide an opportunity for engagements with government officials, traditional rulers and other security stakeholders on measures to restore peace and curb further violence.

The police urged media organisations across the state to cover the scheduled activities.

“All media organisations are kindly requested to be present and to deploy their reporters and cameramen to cover the events,” the statement added.

The Command directed journalists seeking further information to contact the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer, Plateau State Command, on 08060565670.
