Troops under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have launched intensified military operations across parts of north-west Nigeria.
The military noted that the operation is targeting terrorist enclaves in Sokoto State, Zamfara State and Kebbi State as part of ongoing efforts to protect communities and dismantle armed groups.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division, Lt. Olaniyi Osoba, the operations carried out within the week have recorded multiple successes against bandits and terrorist elements.
In Sokoto State, troops of the COAS Intervention Battalion VII engaged terrorists in two separate encounters on March 25 at the Magonho Forest.
During the clashes, three suspected bandits were killed, while troops recovered three AK-47 rifles and several motorcycles.
Similarly, in Zamfara State, soldiers executed a successful ambush along the Gada Maya–Makakari Village road, neutralising two terrorists and forcing others to flee.
Recovered items included an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a Baofeng radio, two mobile phones and a motorcycle.
Later the same day, troops responded to an attempted retaliatory attack by terrorists on Kaida Village.
The assailants had reportedly accused residents of collaborating with security forces.

Meanwhile, in Kebbi State, troops responding to intelligence on the presence of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group in Giron Masa community, Shanga Local Government Area, encountered an ambush approximately 500 metres from the village.
Despite the attack, military reinforcements and combat support units have since been deployed, with ongoing intelligence-driven efforts to track and neutralise the fleeing suspects.
The Nigerian Army’s 8 Division/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to dominating the operational environment, degrading terrorist capabilities and ensuring the safety of civilians across the region.
